The Hidden Princess of Eldora
( The Hidden Princess of Eldora )
Long ago, in the kingdom of Eldora, there lived a princess named Seraphine, known throughout the land as the Veiled Princess. She was never seen without the silken, pearl-studded veil that covered her face. Legends surrounded her shrouded visage—some said she hid unspeakable beauty that could drive a man mad; others whispered of a curse that made her reflection deadly to behold.
The royal family never spoke of it, and Seraphine herself never addressed the rumors. She lived a quiet life, rarely appearing in public, her presence marked by a haunting grace and the soft rustle of her gown as she passed through the palace halls.
One stormy night, a young scholar named Elias arrived at the castle gates, carrying with him a request to access the royal library. His goal was to study the kingdom’s ancient texts, but his true intent was fueled by curiosity about the princess. He had heard the tales and was determined to uncover the truth.
Elias was granted permission and escorted to the library—a vast chamber of towering shelves and flickering lanterns. As he explored, he noticed a door marked with strange symbols. When he asked about it, the librarian grew pale and hurried away, muttering something about forbidden knowledge.
That only made Elias more determined. Late that night, when the castle was silent, he returned to the door. It opened surprisingly, revealing a smaller, hidden library filled with dusty scrolls and locked tomes. Among them was a journal bearing the royal crest.
As Elias read, his heart pounded. The journal belonged to Queen Lysandra, Seraphine’s mother. It told a harrowing tale:
During her pregnancy, Lysandra had been desperate for an heir after years of childlessness. She sought the aid of a mysterious sorceress, who promised her a child of unparalleled grace and wisdom—but at a price. The sorceress warned that the child would be touched by both light and shadow, destined to carry a great burden.
When Seraphine was born, the kingdom rejoiced, but strange events began to occur. Mirrors cracked when she approached, shadows danced where there was no light, and those who gazed too long at her face fell into trances, murmuring incoherent phrases about “infinite stars” and “a void beyond reason.” Fearing for her daughter’s safety—and the sanity of her people—Queen Lysandra ordered the veil to be made and declared it a royal mandate.
Elias was still absorbing the journal’s contents when he felt a presence behind him. Turning, he saw Princess Seraphine standing in the doorway. Her veil glimmered faintly in the lantern light, and her voice was soft yet commanding.
“You should not be here,” she said.
“I wanted to understand,” Elias replied. “I want to help.”
For a long moment, Seraphine was silent. Then, to his shock, she stepped forward and lifted her veil.
Elias braced himself, expecting horror or madness, but what he saw was… indescribable. Her face seemed to shift, a kaleidoscope of light and shadow, beauty and terror. Her eyes were like galaxies, infinite and unknowable, and he felt like he was falling through endless space.
“You see now,” Seraphine said, her voice echoing strangely. “I am not cursed. I am a bridge between worlds. The sorceress who gifted my mother sought to place a piece of the celestial in the mortal realm. I am both human and something… more.”
“Why hide it?” Elias asked, though his voice trembled.
“Because the truth is too much for most to bear,” she replied. “My face is a window to the beyond. It can inspire, but it can also destroy.”
She lowered her veil and turned to leave, but then paused. “You have seen, and yet you stand. Perhaps you are meant for more than you realize.”
The next morning, Elias found himself back in the outer library, the night’s events before feeling like a dream. The journal was gone, and no one spoke of the veiled princess.
But from that day forward, Elias was plagued by visions—fragments of galaxies, whispers of forgotten truths, and an unshakable sense that his encounter with Seraphine was only the beginning of a much greater mystery.
And somewhere in the shadowed halls of the palace, the veiled princess continued her solitary vigil, a keeper of secrets that spanned realms.
